Costa Rica aims for Top 10 Spring Break destinations.

San Jose, Costa Rica – (March 12, 2007) – With the launch of “Spring Break Costa Rica 2007 ”, Costa Rica has announced it’s entry into the Spring Break travel market, a segment of the travel industry it has largely ignored in the past.

Targeting U.S. and Canadian College students, using an interactive website, http://www.costaricanspringbreak.com, featuring photos, stories and video’s.

Costa Rica hopes to become a top 10 spring break destination by 2008, taking on well established rivals Mexico, Texas and Florida.

Featuring, sandy palm tree lined beaches, a lively party scene, sunny warm weather, and it’s close proximity to most U.S. airline hubs (Costa Rica is only a 2 ½ hour flight from Miami ). Spending Spring Break in Costa Rica would seem a logical choice, for U.S. and Canadian University students.

Asked why College and University students haven’t chosen Costa Rica for their spring breaks, instead opting for Mexico or locations in the U.S. such as Florida and Texas?

“Costa Rica has always been popular, with U.S. and Canadian College students, who mainly traveled to Costa Rica during the summer months. This is the place to take a break from partying, enjoy nature at it’s finest, and get back to your senses. Entrance into Manuel Antonio National Park is included in the Spring Break Costa Rica Package. The park has some really great hikes, with cliff views of Manuel Antonio and it’s beaches, as well as hike to a waterfall.

It’s best to enter Manuel Antonio National Park early in the morning if you plan to go hiking. Wear a swimsuit under your shorts and t-shirt, and bring a mask, if you plan to snorkel the reefs. Don’t forget water and bug lotion. The Park doesn’t sell food or water, so either pick-it up at the beach before you go in, or you can leave the park for lunch and then re-enter with your ticket.

All of our professional, bilingual, guides are well educated in the wildlife and plantlife of the forest, and will happy to take you to the Primary and Secondary Forest where you can enjoy different types of animals, birds, insects and plants.

There are 16 platforms, four of which are built on the ground and 12 hanging 90 feet above it from the robust trees in the primary forest, with ages ranging from 100 to 200 years.

The construction of these platforms, which include stainless steel cables and metal platforms, allow them to hold 2000 pounds or 10 people each. The cables between platforms are 1/2 inch thick and strongly fixed to the trees which hold the platforms. We use harnesses only of the best brands which can hold up to 6,600 lbs. as well as the leach from which they hang from the rollers that slide through the cables.

When canopying through the rainforest, I usually see at least monkeys, sloths, and iguanas. It is an awesome and unique way to see the rainforest!

It’s non-stop here… non-stop! Every night of the week there is always a place to create a ruckus and party throughout the night.

Ladies night. Never fails. There is always a ladies night somewhere in the world and here in Manuel Antonio there’s one to be found every night of the week. Does anyone know what that means? Free drinks for the ladies…tons and tons of free drinks, for all the beautiful women who frolic to Manuel Antonio.

If ladies and free drinks aren’t your thing, don’t worry there’s always live music night, reggae night, salsa night, dance on the bar night, party on the beach until the sun comes up night- or morning, and what the hell did I do last night?…nights.

Nothing beats a Casado. It’s the best deal- food wise- that you can find in Costa Rica. There is no other meal that’s as tasty, filling and cheap.

A typical Casado comes your choice of meat (fish, pork, or beef)- vegetarian dishes are also available-white rice, flavorful beans, palatable potatoes, a golden fried plantain, and a healthy side salad.

What’s a full plate like this cost? Usually 1500 colones, which is cheaper than buying three items on McDonald’s dollar menu… not to mention healthier.

In Costa Rica it’s recommended that you don’t feed the monkeys. Reason being- they can become too dependent on humans and there is the possibility of them becoming overly aggressive. That has to be the case with every wild animal…right?

However, opportunities do arise here in Manuel Antonio that you just can’t pass up. I’m not encouraging you to go searching for our hairy amigos just to feed them, but if you have some extra fruit that your not going to eat, and you have the choice of throwing it away or giving it to a moocher with a tail, I would choose the latter.

The posted picture is of yours truly handing off a left over banana from lunch to a White-Faced Capuchin (White Faced Monkey). It was a totally new and exciting experience that will never be forgotten. It also reaffirmed my belief that monkeys are cool ass creatures.

So…do monkeys like bananas? Hell freakin yes! Almost as much as Poohbear and I love Imperial…almost.
